We’re excited to share an inside look at one of our latest engineering projects: the development and installation of custom carbon fiber connecting rods for a 2021 BMW M4 (G82 platform). This high-performance build represents a bold step forward in lightweight engine internals, and we’re proud to be leading the way in innovation and execution.
The goal was simple: reduce rotational mass, increase engine response, and push the limits of modern materials, all without compromising strength. With that vision in mind, our team designed and forged a set of carbon composite connecting rods tailored specifically for the S58 engine.
These con rods are built using forged carbon fiber wrapped over a lightweight titanium core, designed to withstand the extreme heat and pressure inside a boosted inline-6. The result? A rod that’s 30% lighter than stock, with exceptional rigidity and fatigue resistance.
Installation & Fitment
The rods were precision balanced and installed in house by our performance techs. We paired them with upgraded bearings and ARP fasteners to ensure long term durability under track level stress.
Despite the radical materials, installation went flawlessly. No modification to the block or crankshaft was necessary, making this a direct fit internal upgrade for the S58 engine.
Ongoing Testing
The car is now in the final phase of testing, currently undergoing mixed driving cycles including:
- Track simulation dyno pulls
- Street tuning under variable load
- Data logging for knock resistance, oil temps, and vibration behavior
So far, the results are incredibly promising. Engine responsiveness has improved, and internal temperatures are running cooler under sustained high RPM exactly the outcome we targeted.
💡 Why It Matters
This project isn’t just about one car it’s about what’s possible. Carbon internals are the future of motorsports and performance engineering, and AYRD Automotive is proud to be pushing the boundary of what’s achievable in real world builds.
Stay tuned for updates, dyno results, and track footage as we continue testing.
